DETROIT - The Phoenix Suns, led by Devin Booker, were more frustrating to play against than your typical last-place team for three quarters on Sunday.
The Detroit Pistons finally broke free in the fourth quarter and defeated the Suns 118-107 at Little Caesars Arena behind 19 points and 16 rebounds from Andre Drummond.
The Pistons (10-7) are 2-0 to start a six-game homestand, their longest of the season.
No Piston scored 20 but six scored in double figures. Detroit made 16-of-41 3-pointers.
Blake Griffin scored 16 points and dished out 11 assists, one short of his career high. He scored 10 points in the final 4:03 to prevent the Suns from mounting a comeback after Drummond took a seat on the bench. Phoenix coach Igor Kokoskov deployed a hack-a-Drummond strategy to send Detroit's big man to the line (he went 1 for 6 during that stretch).
Reggie Jackson contributed 19 points and eight assists.
Booker led the Suns (4-15) with 37 points and center Deandre Ayton, the top pick in the 2018 draft, collected 25 points and 12 rebounds.
It was back and forth for three quarters, with the Suns leading 84-83 heading into the fourth.
That's when the Pistons established control. Stanley Johnson (14 points) hit two of their four 3-pointers in the first 5:38 of the quarter and scored eight points during a 20-7 run.
Langston Galloway scored 15 points, including 4-of-6 3-pointers. Backup center Zaza Pachulia had a strong game with seven points and 10 rebounds.
The Suns entered the game with the worst record in the Western Conference but were coming off a stunning victory Friday at Milwaukee.
Suns starting forward T.J. Warren was ejected midway through the second quarter after receiving a double technical foul for arguing an offensive foul call.
The Pistons had difficulty containing Booker in the first half, using three different defenders on him, to no avail. He scored 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting.
The Suns led by as many as six before the Pistons heated up in the second quarter. Galloway made three 3-pointers in the quarter, giving Detroit a 10-point lead.
Jamal Crawford hit three consecutive 3-pointers in a span of 48 seconds to get Phoenix back to within two points.
