Blake Griffin of the Detroit Pistons, who’s playing his first full season with the team, has found a home in the Motor City.
In an interview with Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times, the 29-year-old reflected on the blockbuster trade which sent him from the LA Clippers to the Pistons.
It was an unexpected deal. After all, eight months prior to the trade, he just inked a five-year, $80 million contract with the team that drafted him. While he did admit that he misses some fans in Los Angeles, Blake Griffin likes the fresh start and says he’s happy to be in Detroit with a new team.
“Yeah, I’m glad it happened,” Griffin said. “I’m not saying I don’t miss certain people. There were some awesome fans that I got to know and I felt like I was very close with them. And there are some people you miss over there, but it was just time for a fresh start.
“I’m glad to be here.”
When he’s in his new home in Michigan, Griffin spends some time with his kids, takes out a script to read. But when his kids are in LA, this is the time where the five-time All-Star relaxes and stays fit. On his lifestyle, he simply has this to say:
“That’s heaven,” he said.
Griffin is currently averaging a career-high in points with 25.3 per contest. It can be credited to a reliable 3-point shot which he has developed over the past few years. Gone are the days when the high-flying big man heavily relied on pick and rolls to fill in the stat sheets. It also helps that head coach Dwane Casey utilizes his offensive talent to the extreme.
