The Los Angeles Lakers have played some okay basketball, but they’ve relied a little too heavily on the talent gap to win games and Sunday afternoon against the Orlando Magic, it caught up to them.
Had they won Sunday afternoon, it would have been another ugly win — the kind of victory the Lakers have been tallying up a few too many of lately. At some point, they’ll have to actually play up to their talent level and put a lesser team away in convincing fashion.
On today’s Locked on Lakers, I opened up the mailbag and at this point of the season, it would seem listeners are looking elsewhere for ways to improve this Lakers roster.
The first question of this mailbag podcast has to do with Anthony Davis. The Lakers have the contracts to make a trade work and, if they fall into a rut, could maybe pull off a deal. All that said, why would the New Orleans Pelicans (who have looked pretty impressive thus far this season) trade the most recognizable star the franchise has come across in decades? As great as it would be to watch Davis in a Lakers uniform next to LeBron James, I just don’t see him being available via trade any time soon.
While we’re on the subject of trades, some listeners wondered whether the Lakers should give the Washington Wizards a call about some of the pieces they might be looking to unload. As great as Bradley Beal might fit on the roster, it just doesn’t make sense to step out of the running for Kevin Durant before he even reaches free agency.
