The Golden State Warriors are quite short-handed as they enter Saturday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets.
Of the 15 available guaranteed roster spots, the Warriors punted one, by opting to leave it unfilled. That put them at 14. And then the injury bug struck, and the team will be without Steph Curry, Draymond Green, or Shaun Livingston for Saturday’s affair, in addition to DeMarcus Cousins. That puts them at 10. And that’s after they sent rookie Jacob Evans III to the Santa Cruz Warriors, which puts them at nine.
So naturally they need reinforcements before playing a game. So the team is recalling Evans, as well as undrafted rookie Marcus Derrickson, who is signed to a two-way contract, from the G League. They’ll be suited up and ready to play against the pesky Nets.
Evans, who is still getting acclimated to the NBA, has been coming along a little slowly in Santa Cruz, but that’s to be expected. Derrickson, on the other hand, has been playing incredibly well.
They’ll be joined by the Warriors other two-way contract, Damion Lee, who has been with the team for the last few days, and soaked up some garbage time minutes in the team’s loss on Thursday to the Milwaukee Bucks.
That should bring the team’s active players up from nine to 12, which should be enough to get them through the game without wearing anyone out too much.
