Zach Lowe on his recent podcast predicted something that we at Fadeaway World have been talking about for a while; Anthony Davis will reject a supermax extension with the New Orleans Pelicans and will be traded next summer.
The Pelicans lost DeMarcus Cousins and Rajon Rondo last summer through free agency and even though they have had a good start to the season, they don’t look set to improve. Davis has been their best player for a while now and has had to carry that franchise for over half a decade.
New Orleans is a very small market and can’t attract big name free agents to come help Davis win a title. It is time he moves on out and goes to a place where the team around him won’t hold him back.
Zach Lowe predicts Anthony Davis will reject the supermax this summer and will thus be traded by the Pelicans with 1 year left on his deal in the summer.
The LA Lakers are the favorite to land Davis next summer. He’ll get to join biggest team in the league, play with LeBron, and will get the chance to be the franchise player once LeBron retires. The Lakers could also have enough cap room to sign another star next summer as well.
The Celtics are another team that could be looking to sign Davis. They have a lot of young talent that are potential trade chips and combining Davis with Kyrie Irving and Jayson Tatum will have the Celtics as a title contender for at least the next 5 years.
Golden State Warriors can surprise everyone and send an offer for Anthony Davis, as well. Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, Jordan Bell, and a few draft picks could be a solid trade package for the best big man in the NBA.
Davis was used to winning before he came to the NBA. He dominated in high school and the 2011-2012 Kentucky Wildcats were one of the best College Basketball Teams we’ve seen in a long time. They went 39-1 en route to winning the national title.
Davis needs to win, and in New Orleans that just won’t happen in the long run. New Orleans fans should savor watching Davis right now because in all likelihood he will be gone this time next year.
