The Portland Trail Blazers should seriously consider pushing for Jimmy Butler, especially with Damian Lillard in his prime.
Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard is off to one of the best starts to a season of his career thus far. Coming off of an All-NBA First Team selection last season and heading into his age 28 season (which many consider most players’ peak), this comes as no surprise to most fans.
Averaging 26.6 points, 6.2 assists, and 4.1 boards per game, Lillard is firmly placed in the top 10 scorers up to this point and has a legitimate shot at the scoring title this year.
He is on his way to becoming one of the best Trail Blazers of all time and I’m sure he and the fans would love to see that solidified with the winning of a championship. The question that now looms for many Blazer fans though is this:
How is management going to continue strengthening the team to help Dame win while in his prime?
One helpful piece is open available via trade for the right package. That piece is none other than Jimmy Butler.
Why haven’t the Blazers been active in the Jimmy Butler pursuit? It has been reported that the Timberwolves’ asking price is high. But what if Rip City offered Evan Turner, a young player like Wade Baldwin, Anfernee Simons, or Caleb Swanigan, and a first-rounder to spark their interest?
This could all just be wishful thinking, but the contracts match up almost perfectly to make for an easy trade. So, it definitely seems worth a shot for the Blazers management.
A big three of Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum, and Jimmy Butler would be exciting to watch offensively and very tough to contain for opposing defenses. Butler and Al-Farouq Aminu would also combine to be one of the better defensive duos in the league. Add Jusuf Nurkic to the mix and that’s a pretty tough starting five, immediately lifting them into contention in the Western Conference.
I doubt anything like this comes into fruition, so don’t get your hopes too high Blazers fans, but it does make a lot of sense. For now, you can still set back and enjoy watching Portland carry on the momentum from their hot start.
