Now that Jimmy Butler is gone, what other positions should the Minnesota Timberwolves look to shore-up via the trade market?
The Minnesota Timberwolves pulled off a blockbuster trade this past weekend, sending Jimmy Butler and Justin Patton to the Sixers for Robert Covington, Dario Saric, Jerryd Bayless, and a 2022 second-round pick.
The trade is going to help the Wolves in many aspects, starting with defense and scoring from both forward spots.
This trade might just be what the team needed to make a playoff push, but only if the Wolves can add a couple more pieces. The front office has to add better players to the bench, and possibly another starter. If management could make that happen, the Timberwolves a contender for a top playoff spot.
The front office did several good things for this team with the Jimmy Butler trade, including solidifying the wing and power forward spots. Robert Covington is on a friendly four-year contract averaging less than $12 million a year — not bad for a player that made NBA All-Defensive team last season.
Dario Saric is going to mesh perfectly with KAT at the four-spot and give Towns room in the paint to do what he does best.
The team now has four starting positions locked in place for the future, with the point guard spot the only spot that isn’t set long-term.
The Wolves will have a decent amount of money next season, although it largely depends on whether or not Jeff Teague opts into the last year of his contract. So, should the Wolves trade Teague now? It’s just another question to consider.
Let’s take a look at three positions the Timberwolves should target before the trade deadline. Hopefully, the front office will address this sooner rather than later to really give the Wolves to make the playoffs.
