The Wizards may have snowed out games this season

The NBA regular season is during the late fall, winter and early spring. Since games are played during the entire winter, there is always a chance that snow could pose travel complications for road teams and postponements for home teams.

James Samenow of The Washington Post’s Capital Weather Gang posted on the winter predictions that WRC, WTTG, WJLA, and WUSA-TV made in the last couple weeks. All four stations agreed on this: this winter and an El NiƱo in the Pacific Ocean will likely have more snow than normal. Samenow and Matt Ross, also of The Washington Post then wrote their own analysis on The Capital Weather Gang stating the same.

If you’re a school aged reader reading this, you are probably really excited to hear this news. However, if you’re involved with an NBA team’s scheduling, this is a big pain in the butt. There could be multiple games postponed this winter because of nor’easters pounding the Washington area, but also Philadelphia where the 76ers play.

So if it snows in Washington to the point where games are postponed, what happens? In short, the NBA schedulers will try to move the game to another date where both teams are available. People who have tickets to the game will be allowed to use the tickets for the rescheduled date, but they can get a refund or exchange for another game.

The most recent Wizards home game that was postponed due to snow was back on January 23, 2016 when the Blizzard of 2016 hit. The game was rescheduled for February 18 which resulted in a 103-89 victory.
