The Houston Rockets are looking at signing Danuel House as the team’s injured players cut into the roster’s depth.
Brandon Knight, Nene and Zhou Qi together have appeared in a grand total of one game for the Houston Rockets this season. Carmelo Anthony, who was supposed to give the Rockets another scoring option, isn’t with the team anymore.
Michael Carter-Williams‘ numbers have dipped for the sixth consecutive season and he has lost his spot in the rotation. Marquese Chriss has scored just 8 points this season.
To add to Houston’s problems, Chris Paul (sore left leg) and Gerald Green (sore right ankle) are questionable for Monday’s game against the Wizards. Chris Paul missed Saturday’s game in Cleveland for “rest” purposes, but it sounds like the Rockets were really just giving his sore leg more time to heal.
Either way, Houston’s already tight rotation could get squeezed even tighter if Paul and Green are out against Washington and Houston’s next game against the Mavericks.
In order to give Mike D’Antoni more options on Houston’s bench, the team is working on signing Rio Grande Valley Vipers forward Danuel House, according to the Houston Chronicle’s Jonathan Feigen. House has traveled to Washington to join the team according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
The 6-foot-7 forward has played seven games for the Vipers this season and is leading the team in scoring at 20.3 points per game. He’s also making 34.1 percent of his 5.9 3-point attempts per game and he leads the Vipers in free throw attempts (6.6) per game. House is a volume 3-point shooter and he can get to the free throw line at a fairly high rate, which makes him a solid fit in Houston’s system.
House even has some NBA experience. Last season, he appeared in 23 games with the Phoenix Suns, averaging 6.6 points and 3.3 rebounds per contest.
House likely won’t see a ton, if any, court time with the Rockets, but he could see more minutes if any additional players are injured or if someone gets into foul trouble. Hopefully the Rockets can get a win against the Wizards and end their two game skid.
