Rockets update
The Rockets dropped the first two games of the road trip, falling to 5-5 on the road.
Averaging 35.4 points per game in his past five games, James Harden leads the NBA in scoring, averaging 30 per game. He averaged 29 points on 59.4 percent shooting against the Wizards last season.
Guard Eric Gordon had a season high 28 points, making 5 of 11 3-pointers, on Saturday in Cleveland. He had averaged 11 points in his previous six games.
Center Clint Capela has blocked at least three shots in his past four games, the longest streak of his career. His four consecutive double-doubles are one shy of his career best.
The Rockets bench has averaged 26.7 points on 38.1 percent shooting and 27.1 percent 3-point shooting, ranking last in the NBA in each category.
Guards Chris Paul (sore left leg) and Gerald Green (sore right ankle) are questionable. Centers Nene (right calf tightness) and Zhou Qi (sprained ankle) and guard Brandon Knight (left knee injury) are out.
Wizards update
After a slow start, the Wizards have shown signs of turning things around, winning five of their past eight games.
The Wizards are 29th in defensive rating, but are ninth in steals and second in blocked shots per game.
Wizards guards John Wall and Bradley Beal combine to average 42.4 points and are one of just two backcourts (along with Portland's) with both players averaging at least 20 points per game.
Dwight Howard has played in just nine of the Wizards' 19 games with Thomas Bryant starting the past two at center.
Forward Otto Porter, averaging 12 points per game, had a season-high 29 points in the Wizards' win against the Pelicans on Saturday. He scored 26 points, making 7 of 11 3-pointers, with six rebounds and seven assists in the Wizards' win against the Rockets last season.
Beal averaged 24 points on 59.4 percent shooting against the Rockets last season.
Howard (aggravated gluteal soreness) is questionable.
Statistically speaking
2.2 – steals per game for Harden, .1 shy of the league lead. Since steals became an official statistic in 1973-74, only Stephen Curry and Allen Iverson have led the NBA in scoring and steals in the same season.
