San Antonio Spurs dominate shorthanded Golden State Warriors

San Antonio Spurs fans everywhere breathed a sigh of relief Sunday night as the Spurs ended their losing streak and dominated at home from start to finish in a 104-92 win over the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors, who had Stephen Curry and Draymond Green among their inactive players, lost their third straight game for a winless road trip through Texas. Kevin Durant was nowhere to be found in the first half for Golden State, struggling early on before finishing 8-of-25 for 22 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and a block.

LaMarcus Aldridge and Rudy Gay provided much of San Antonio’s scoring with 24 and 19 points, respectively. Together, the three offensive stars for the Spurs combined to shoot 24 of 45 on an efficient 53.5% shooting. Aldridge, in particular, needed to have a big game after struggling in the two previous contests. He contributed 24 points, 17 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks in a dominant performance.

Bryn Forbes, Patty Mills and Marco Belinelli chipped in from the guard position to provide 30 points to supplement San Antonio’s Big 3 of DeRozan, Aldridge and Gay.

Klay Thompson had 25 points and Quin Cook gave 16 points off the bench, but the Warriors struggled from beyond the arc, shooting only 20% from three point land.

DeMar DeRozan scored 11 points in the final quarter to lead his team to victory and stuff the stat sheets with a final line of 20 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds.
