Dallas Mavericks fans are at a mutual understanding. Wesley Matthews is doing too much. For the sake of argument, here is a pro/con list.
Wesley Matthews is brewing sour grapes in the Dallas Mavericks fanbase. At one time, there was a divide between fans of cold hard opinions and optimistic views on the polarizing figure. However, as of late, it seems both sides of the fan spectrum have come to mutual terms. Despite the detrimental effects of Matthews on the roster, some bright spots can’t be ignored.
When the report hit the national airwaves of starting power forward Harrison Barnes missing regular season games, almost instantly, you could foresee the inevitable instability on offense. However, there was a stable, well, at least a persistent player with the ball in his hands, Wesley Matthews. Unfortunately for Mavs fans, Wes is more of a fixture in the offense than many first suspected.
This Mavericks campaign is an obvious improvement from last season, and yet, playoffs are not in the picture by a long shot. Sure, Dallas manages to keep games competitive, but with the makeup of the current roster, they will continue to perform poorly in clutch situations.
Wesley Matthews is not the solution to the late-game woes, although at least presently, he’s the consistent answer Dallas provides.
It’s apparent the coaching staff is content with the bow-and-arrow obsessed undersized forward launching up shots. The proof is in the consistency in the field goal attempts. Whether Wes is the issue or not, Carlisle is ultimately the one allowing such play.
With that said, you have to take into account the beneficial outcomes for having an aggressive player. But in the same breath, voluntary ignorance of the forward’s unfavorable play will cost you.
