What has been a frustrating, but also encouraging season sees the New York Knicks staying competitive despite the losses.

With the season already 21 games in for the New York Knicks, there has been enough playing time to gain a sense of who deserves to stay with the team after this season. The Knicks biggest need after attempting to sign a star in free agency will be to solidify their bench.

Head coach David Fizdale’s inconsistent rotations have let the Knicks showcase all their neophytes and gain a better sense of who is a fit and who is not. Whether Knicks’ fans have a problem with the rotations resulting in losses, it does not matter. This is not the Knick’s year to sneak into the playoffs despite their current three-game win streak. This is not the year to miss out on Duke’s big three.

We need patience in all facets and an overall realization that we are better off staying competitive with our young ballers and losing tight games. It teaches these players a strong lesson in staying fierce and not giving up. If we see a consistency in intensity and commitment, then Fizdale has done more than was expected to with the roster he was given.

Sooner or later, a consistent rotation will be established, but until then we are given the ability to watch these players work together for a better contractual situation. Establishing a bench for the year’s to come will be an underrated benefit to the Knicks making the playoffs. Just look at the 2012-13 season filled with veterans who inevitably helped the Knicks make it to two rounds in the playoffs.
