Thad Young knows he's not a primary scorer for the Indiana Pacers, but he doesn't want to fall on any "grenades," either. Grenades are passes a player receives very late in a shot clock, when scoring is the toughest.
Young explains his point in a Sports Illustrated article: “I’m obviously not an iso guy,” Young says. “If there are three or four seconds left on the shot clock, you better not pass me that (expletive).”
Players don't want that knock against their field goal percentage or a potential turnover for a shot clock violation, although those are considered team turnovers and not assigned to a player, according to the story.
Young does most of his work near the basket, either on post-ups or putbacks, and is shooting 49 percent from the floor so far this season.
