Orlando businesses take part in Cyber Monday sales as shopping weekend continues

Cyber Monday is for more than just the big national retailers, as Central Florida companies jumped in to try to take a piece of the estimated $7.8 billion in sales expected to happen online.

Companies from the Orlando Magic and the Orlando Science Center to Track Shack and Rifle Paper Co. offered discounts on merchandise, tickets and memberships on what has traditionally been the biggest online shopping day of the year.

Even small shops got a boost in online traffic.

“We are definitely seeing more people on the site looking for deals,” said Patti Dillingham, co-owner of Louise’s Pet Connection, a pet store in Lake Mary.

Louise’s, which launched its online business earlier this year, was giving 10 percent off toys and treats.

Sports merchandise seller Victory Tailgate of Orlando gave a 25 percent discount on merchandise through Monday on its site.

“Cyber Monday is always our biggest day of the year,” said Victory Tailgate CEO Scott Sims. “We will do about three times what we do on a normal holiday shopping day.”

Retailers are fond of Cyber Monday, the first day after the Thanksgiving shopping weekend, because people return to work and tend to shop for holiday gifts.

When the day is over, online sales are predicted to rise 18.3 percent over last year’s Cyber Monday, according to Adobe Digital Analytics.

National retailers such as Old Navy offered 50 percent off sales and Target gave 15 percent off sitewide.

In Central Florida, Winter Park-based Stationery and planner seller Rifle Paper Co. had a 30 percent off sale on its website, continuing Black Friday discounts. MacroBaby, with its headquarters near Florida Mall, had a sale with up to 80 percent off merchandise on its website.

The Orlando Magic offered a five-game “Fast Break Pass” for $49 for contests in January and February against teams such as the Indiana Pacers (and former Magic player Victor Oladipo) and Minnesota Timberwolves.

There were discounts on memberships, too.

The Orlando Science Center gave 15 percent off annual memberships and the Orange County History Center and took $5 off a membership. Legoland Florida extended its Black Friday deal to give an extra three months on an annual pass.

SeaWorld Orlando offered a weekday pass for as low as $39.99.
