L.A. officially unveils new City Edition jerseys

It’s official. The L.A. Clippers new Nike City Edition jerseys are now out.

According to Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints, below is a first look of the new Nike City Edition jerseys, which is a celebration of their 35th season in LA.

In a press statement, the team shared that the City Edition jerseys pay homage to the 1984 USA Basketball team — the team which won gold at the Olympics:

“The navy blue, red & white color scheme & color blocking are inspired by the uniforms of the 1984 USA Basketball Team, which won gold at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles & was the last amateur U.S. team to win an Olympic gold medal in men’s basketball.”

A closer look at the jersey will reveal the five stars on each side of the jersey which symbolize the five Olympic rings. Also, the LA logo itself was inspired by the 1984 Olympic Games “Stars in Motion” logo — which was the same year that the Clippers were inaugurated into the NBA.

And last but not the least, the jersey pays tribute to Ralph Lawler — the team’s longtime television and radio voice. Lawler, who has commentated over 3,000 games for the Clippers, announced that this 40th season will be his final one as the team’s voice. His signature can be seen right above the jersey’s jock tag.

The Clippers will debut the new jerseys against the Milwaukee Bucks this Saturday.
