Knicks takeaways from 103-98 win over Grizzlies

Enes Kanter and Emmanuel Mudiay led the Knicks to their third straight win as they beat the Memphis Grizzlies 103-98 on Sunday at FedEx Forum. >> Box score



Things to know about Sunday's game



1. Kanter recorded a double-double of 21 points and a career-high 26 rebounds, while Mudiay scored 17 points, including a thunderous dunk over Memphis' Garrett Temple off a Trey Burke steal.



2. New York trailed 91-89 before Tim Hardaway Jr. made a 3-pointer that gave it a 92-91 lead. After Mike Conley's 11-foot shot made it 93-92, Burke hit two free throws that made it 94-93. Mudiay's and-one dunk pushed the lead to 97-93 with 1:35 remaining, and the Knicks led by at least three the rest of the way.



3. Though they were outshot 44.2 percent to 37.4 percent, the Knicks made 27 of 32 free throws and outrebounded the Grizzlies 56-41



4. New York trailed 52-43 at halftime but outscored the Grizzlies 35-19 in the third quarter.



5. Marc Gasol led Memphis with 27 points while Conley recorded 23 points and 11 assists in their first game against former head coach David Fizdale.

For a while in the fourth quarter, it felt like the Grizzlies were blocking every single shot the Knicks took. In the end, Mudiay and Burke were able to shut the door on the Grizzlies and lead the Knicks to their third straight win. This is a nice stretch here for a young team, showing they can string together a couple of wins against in general, but also against a few quality opponents. Beating the Celtics in Boston isn't easy; beating the Pelicans isn't easy; and winning in Memphis against the 12-6 Grizzlies is no easy task. This was a big win for Fizdale against Gasol and his former squad that let him go way too early.



Mudiay's late poster over Temple felt like the dagger, and it turned out to be. That was just a sensational dunk and one as the Knicks showed grit and fight down the stretch. It all came large in part to their 21-3 run in the third quarter that would give them some separation. Though they ended up blowing the lead, they held on once they retoo it. Mudiay had a monster game Friday night and played well again Sunday with 17 points. The true hero, though, may have been Kanter, who casually put up 21 points and 26 boards in 40 minutes. After complaining about playing time, he's been earning plenty of it lately as he dominates the glass. They needed Kanter's interior effort tonight against a Grizzlies team that blocked 19 shots.
