Trading for forward Jimmy Butler looks to be a brilliant move for the Philadelphia 76ers as it places the franchise in a very strong position to qualify for the NBA Finals. Former Timberwolves forward, Jimmy Butler, can already see the massive difference between the two franchises as he comes into just his second week at his new club.
“Night and day,” Butler told Shams Charania of The Athletic of his new situation.
One of the main differences that Butler pointed out is his new teammates and their incredible abilities that is sure to take Philly far when it comes to the postseason. Although there’s no hard feelings or bad blood between Butler and his former teammates in Karl Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins, Butler never had the best rapport with them due the two not possessing the skills and attitude of how Butler usually plays. Jimmy Butler has spoken out about how he sees a lot more in 76ers young duo of Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid.
“Ben sees the game steps ahead, and Joel is a monster inside. So I’m envisioning what we can be,” Butler said.
The Sixers were still a contender before the arrival of Butler due to the absence of a LeBron led team in the East, however, it’s only now that they are truly considered as one of the teams that can go all the way. This season, Philadelphia has lost to the Celtics, Raptors and Bucks, all who are going to be competing to be the team from the East to make the Finals.
Adding a four-time All-Star in Jimmy Butler was seen as a necessary risk for the side to have a genuine chance in the postseason. The 76ers were eliminated in last season’s playoff series in the second round to the Boston Celtics in a four to nil sweep. With the continued development and progressive experience of Simmons and Embiid along with the help of Butler, the Sixers should be a great deal more competitive this time around.
