While some have an extensive shoe collection, Kelly Olynyk has an impressive hat collection.
The Heat big man estimates he has “a couple hundred hats, at least.” So, he’s taking advantage with a campaign called #SnapBackKelly on Instagram.
Before every game this season, Olynyk posts a photo of the hat he’s wearing to the arena. The plan is to wear a different hat each game (and he definitely has enough hats to do that), and they range from various styles of Heat hats, to a Red Sox hat after Boston won the World Series championship in October, to a Gonzaga hat to celebrate his alma mater and the start of the college basketball season.
“Actually my agency came up the idea and I just thought it was good,” Olynyk said before the Heat faced the Raptors on Sunday in his hometown of Toronto. “They asked, ‘How many hats do you have?’ I was like, ‘A couple hundred. Like a lot.’ I wear them all the time and a lot of times people give me hats, whether it’s like a restaurant or company. I love supporting people that way and rocking them. Maybe as we get further, I’ll see if people want to submit a hat for one of the 82.”
Olynyk has to decide which hats to pack when the Heat goes on the road. But for home games, he goes with whatever hat catches his attention that day.
“As the days comes, whatever I’m feeling,” he said with a smile. “As it gets bigger, I might have to start planning.”
Olynyk is averaging 7.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and two assists in 17.7 minutes this season entering Sunday’s game in Toronto.
