The NBA veteran, 32, sat out Saturday's game against New Orleans Pelicans with an injury in an embarrassing place.

After a nagging glute problem kept him out of another game, fans took to Twitter to tease the basketball star about his "butt injury".

Dwight is known as a fun-loving guy, but even he may have been smarting after fans shafted him on social media.

One fan tweeted: "Dwight Howard will be out with a sore ass again."

And Ryan tweeted: "Laughing at the fact Dwight Howard isn't playing because his damn butt broke."

Yet another fan joked: "What's going on with Dwight Howard's *ss?"

Former Orlando Magic and LA Lakers star Howard keeps his personal life to himself and is believed to be single.

But in 2007 his ex-girlfriend dancer Royce Reed gave birth to their son Braylon.

In an interview, Howard talked about how the incident had affected his Christian faith.

Howard said: "I was ashamed because I'd talked so much about being a Christian, professed my faith to the whole world, and here I was with a baby out of wedlock.

"I felt like I didn't need my relationship with God anymore, and that caused a lot of pain."

Fans of the Wizards have had a laugh at Howard's expense, but there's been little for them to smile about this NBA season.

The Wizards are 7-12 for the season and US media has claimed star players John Wall and Bradley Beal are likely to be traded.

But they managed to secure a 124-114 win over the Pelicans, as they look to get their season back on track.
