Derrick Rose of the Minnesota Timberwolves is outplaying several of the top point guards in the league in terms of Player Efficiency Rating or PER.
Statistics from ESPN show that Rose has a PER of 20.60 which is good for seventh-best among NBA guards. Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors has the best PER with 29.08.
Amazingly, Derrick Rose has a higher PER than Kyle Lowry (20.43) of the Toronto Raptor, Chris Paul (19.73) of the Houston Rockets, Ben Simmons (19.61) of the Philadelphia 76ers, and John Wall (19.19) of the Washington Wizards.
According to its creator, John Hollinger:
“The PER sums up all a player’s positive accomplishments, subtracts the negative accomplishments, and returns a per-minute rating of a player’s performance.”
This basically means that Rose makes the most out of the minutes he plays every night.
What makes it more impressive is that Derrick Rose comes off the bench for the Timberwolves. In 18 games, he’s only been part of the starting line up five times. And per night, he logs in 30.2 minutes. Lowry, Paul, and Simmons play at least 33.4 minutes per night.
So it’s not just through casual observation and plain statistics that prove that Rose is having one hell of a season. Advanced statistics reveal that Rose may be back to superstar mode. And since his 50-point outburst, all eyes have been on Rose. He hasn’t disappointed thus far.
