Dallas Mavericks Star Dirk Nowitzki Receives Key To The City

DALLAS, TX --Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki took to the court for the first time in months to receive a key to the city by Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings. Nowitzki was honored Wednesday night during halftime of the Mavericks game who were facing off against the Brooklyn Nets.

"This is incredibly humbling. It's been a pleasure. It's been an absolute honor to represent this franchise, this great city and all these great people all around the world. So thank you. I won't lose the key," Nowitzki said after receiving the honor, according to CBS.

Nowitzki has spent the past seven months recovering from ankle surgery to remove bone spurs, ESPN reported. He is expected to return to the team in December and become the first player in NBA history to play 21 seasons with the same franchise. Nowitzki currently shares the record with Kobe Bryant who spent 20 seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers.
