The New York Knicks became the latest team to unveil their City jersey for the 2018-19 season.
As the NBA unveils their City Edition jerseys for the 2018-19 season, the New York Knicks became the latest to join the mix on Friday. They revealed a dark blue jersey, with white lettering and orange and blue stripes on the side.
This look plays off a 1950s-’60s design for the Knicks, but it’s not the first time they threw it back with the blue and orange stripes. They donned a similar look in 2015-16, except with a white base color and before Nike’s partnership with the NBA.
The stripes on the side represent the neighborhoods and boroughs of New York City, as seen in the released unveiling of the jersey:
Each NBA team receives a new City uniform by the season, so it’s a one-year-only style.
It’s not the first City Edition jersey for the Knicks. They had a New York Fire Department-inspired look in 2017-18 that was worn in the second half of the season. These were worn seven times, and each instance saw the organization donate game tickets to local firefighters.
Along with the City uniform, other merchandise can be purchased on nbastore.com. Whether it’s hats, sweatshirts, t-shirts or accessories, there are ample products for Knicks cans purchase and support their team.
Lids.com also offers alternate hat designs based on the City uniforms.
The Knicks didn’t announce their schedule for wearing these new looks, but look for it to happen soon. That’s as other NBA teams break out their own recently-released gear, which includes symbolic gestures to their city’s history and throwbacks to their organization’s respective past. The Denver Nuggets did this with the retro rainbow graphics.
It’s new attire for the new-look, younger Knicks. Let’s see when they debut this uniform at Madison Square Garden.
