76ers interested in Korver, Cavs have other options

If the Philadelphia 76ers want to ante up for Kyle Korver, the Cleveland Cavaliers have other options to move the veteran sharpshooter.

In Cavs trade rumors, Kyle Korver and the Philadelphia 76ers have been linked again ever since Philly made the blockbuster trade to acquire Jimmy Butler.

It’s still early in the season, but the for the Sixers to be true contenders in the East, they’re going to to need some help scoring from perimeter, which is why they want Korver.

But Sixers GM Elton Brand is slow playing a deal because Philadelphia doesn’t have Jerryd Bayless to unload on the Cavaliers any longer, as he went to Minnesota in the Butler swap.

Just looking at the Sixers’ payroll, a deal of Mike Muscalas and Zhaire Smith would work, but Philly really likes Smith, their 2018 first-round pick. The No. 1 overall pick from the 2017 draft, Markelle Fultz, has also had his name dropped, although the Sixers are showing patience with him.

Remember when the Cavs’ wanted to make deals when they were contenders, but other teams wanted to yank Cleveland around?

Payback time.

Brand doesn’t want to part with Fultz or Smith yet?

Philadelphia isn’t the only team that’s going to come calling on Korver.

How much longer is LeBron James going to stay patient? We know that’s not something he’ll do for an entire season.

Eventually, James is going to want someone who can consistently knock down those corner 3’s he sets up by driving into the paint.

The Thunder and the Rockets, two teams likely to make the playoffs may also need shooting help–that is if they actually want to advance a round in the playoffs.

Oklahoma is the worst 3-point shooting team in the league, shooting under 30 percent from beyond the arc!

Houston isn’t much better, shooting at a 32.5 percent clip–fifth worst in the Association.

I like the idea of dealing with Philly to get Smith. Fultz would be fine and the jury’s still out on him. But don’t think the Cavs’ have to play hostage to Philadelphia. There are other teams out there and as the season nears the All-Star break, the offers for Korver should start to get more competitive.
