Danny Green has been a key contributor for the Toronto Raptors this year. With his contract expiring in July, we discuss: will Green re-sign in Toronto this offseason?
Although it’s hard to believe, Green — the Raptors’ quintessential 3 & D player, who boasts a career three point percentage just under 40-percent — was regarded by many as a mere salary cap filler when he was brought to Toronto as part of the blockbuster Kawhi Leonard trade.
As pointed out by Jordan Skuse in his player preview of Green last month, Danny was brought on to “be solid, stick open shots when they come his way, [and] just fill in the gaps” for this Raptors team.
Through 15 games this season, Green has exceeded all reasonable expectations regarding his personal contributions thus far. In fact, the 31 year old is enjoying somewhat of a resurgence with the Raptors this year, making 44.-percent of his three pointers after three straight campaigns shooting under 38% from deep.
Green’s performance has been nothing short of spectacular, and at the rate he is going, Green looks to be much more than just the “filler” he was presumed to be in July.
Appropriately, Green’s play thus far gives life to a crucial consideration for both the Raptors and Green later in the year… will Danny re-sign in Toronto at the end of the season, when he becomes a unrestricted free agent and hits the open market?
Let’s consider this question from the perspectives of both Danny and the Raptors…
