Kyrie Irving says the struggling Celtics are nearing ‘rock bottom’

The Boston Celtics started the year as the favorite to win the Eastern Conference and contend for the NBA title.

But after 20 games they’re just 10-10 and looking anything like a championship team.

Kyrie Irving, who missed their playoff run last year due to injury, told Sports Illustrated that they are reaching a desperate time:

“You’re almost at that rock bottom point where the team is about to blow up,” Kyrie Irving said. “Not saying that we’re there, but for me there is no more time to waste.”

Marcus Smart, the heart and soul of the team in the playoffs last year, offered his feelings on what they’re not doing:

“We don’t impose our fear and will on other teams,” Smart said. “Last year, teams used to, when they came in and played the Celtics, they knew they were in for a fight. This year, teams can’t wait to play us. That’s a problem.”

There’s plenty of time for the team to figure things out, but it will be interesting to see if any moves are made if this mediocrity continues.
