Jimmy Butler, Joel Embiid achieve feat no Sixers duo has in 29 years

There was no shortage of drama in a recent Philadelphia 76ers win over the Brooklyn Nets. The Sixers outscored their opponent by 15 points in the fourth quarter and it still took a game-winning shot from Jimmy Butler to walk away with a victory.

But lost in the excitement of Butler’s clutch shot and his 34-point, 12 rebound performance, is the feat he and teammate Joel Embiid accomplished.

When the final buzzer sounded and the Sixers celebrated the 127-125 win, Embiid’s 32 points and 12 rebounds played a huge role in the outcome as well. And as Josh Schrager revealed (h/t Sixers Stats for the date), the duo became the first Sixers teammates to post at least 30 points and 10 rebounds in the same game since April 4, 1989.

Joining the company of Charles Barkley and Ron Anderson deserves a tip of the cap. In that game, a 124-113 victory over the New York Knicks, the Sixers duo combined for 68 points and 27 rebounds. Barkley tallied 32 points with 15 rebounds on 56.3 percent shooting and Anderson posted a stat line of 36 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 57.7 percent from the field.
