Detroit Pistons star power forward Blake Griffin is an old school guy and values the traditional eye-test over analytics.
With analytics taking over basketball, the war between the eye-test metric versus stats people has ramped up lately, and many players aren’t fans of the way some people talk and cover the sport.
Blake Griffin says he doesn’t need advanced stats to tell him if a player is good or not because his eyes can give him that answer right away.
“I really don’t care about those as much,” Griffin said. “To me now with all the advanced analytics, you can make an argument for any player or any stat you want. So for me, it’s about the eye-test. I know it’s kind of old school, but like, you can sit down and watch a player and know he’s a good player just by watching him. I don’t really need any statistics to tell me otherwise.”

A lot of players in the NBA aren’t fans of analytics. There’s so many random stats nowadays that it’s taking away from the joy of the game. Players can either hoop or they can’t. At the end of the day, the game of basketball has always been about buckets and who can score them.
Blake Griffin is having a great season thus far for the Pistons. The five-time All-Star is averaging 25.3 points, 10.4 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game while shooting 46.9 percent from the field, 39.6 percent from beyond the arc and 74.6 percent from the free-throw line. The Pistons are 9-7 on the year.
